Let me start off by saying thanks to everyone for all their support! This year’s ISDE Fundraiser was a huge success and I couldn’t be happier with the end result. We had about 250 riders and a ton of spectators come out to show their support and spend a great day riding, eating, and having a great time.

Grindingstone basically let me do whatever I wanted this year and they did a great job taking care of all the tracks. We had six different tracks/ trails available for people to ride (MX, Endurocross, Escargo, Mini, Desert loop, and a Pee-Wee track). I would say one of my favorite events was the Escargo! Everyone had a blast and kept competing to see who could get the fastest time.

We also had a huge BBQ (with two great cooks Darryl and Arden), and a lot of desserts. After that it was time for the raffle and auction. I’m pretty sure everyone that bought a ticket left with something (which was cool)! Thanks to a lot of great sponsors for helping me out this year!

I have way to many people to thank for helping out with everything! A lot of friends donated stuff from their companies and did what they could to help out. This ISDE is such a tough thing to do on your own and I really don’t think I could’ve afforded to do it this year without the help of everyone!

Other Notes:
Here is an awesome video Rich Van Every did for Monster Energy Kawasaki (at the last H&H race)! This is one of the coolest videos I’ve seen! http://www.kawasaki.com/Racing_news/Article.aspx?id=1471 . You might have to refresh the page to watch it.

I’ll be posting updates while I’m at the ISDE (or my wife will:) on my Facebook fan page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Destry-Abbott/114746998547830?ref=ts and my message board on my site www.destryabbott.com . I’ll also be running number 44 at this years ISDE.

I posted some photos from Kelsey Abbott, Woody (from www.desertimagecollection.com), and Mary Doty. They did an awesome job!

Thanks again to great sponsors, family, and friends!

Best Wishes,

New Berlin, NY (September 12, 2010) – After an exciting and hard-fought battle, Jimmy Jarrett edged out Nate Kanney to win the Can-Am Unadilla GNCC in New Berlin, New York – round 10 of the Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series.

Jarrett’s win was somewhat of a surprise since the GEICO/JG Off Road/ Monster Energy Kawasaki rider suffered a shoulder injury early in the season and has spent most of the year trying to return to form. The fact that he beat Kanney at Unadilla was even more impressive, since the New York course is well known as Kanney’s favorite.

“I surprised myself,” said Jarrett. “I’ve been off for so long and I haven’t been able to ride at that pace since Florida, but I think the adrenaline kept me going for most of the race.”

Jarrett got a good jump at the start and took the lead within the first mile of the race.

“I got in the lead early on and then Nate passed me and the battle began,” said Jarrett. “We went back and forth and then I tipped over with two laps to go and he got away from me and I thought it was over with. But he got into some lappers and I was able to catch up to him. Then on the last lap, not far from the end, he just lost the front end on some slippery rocks and I knew that was my shot and I just pinned it.”

Kanney crossed the finish line less than five seconds behind Jarrett to take second.

“I had the lead for a while and Jimmy was right on me and we were having a good race,” said Kanney. “He kept the pressure on and I had to push on the last lap and I crashed trying to get around a lapper and unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to make it up. I didn’t get the win but I’m really happy for Jimmy. He’s had a lot of bad luck this year and he really rode good today so I’m happy for him.”

Chris Bach made a late race charge to finish third. The Clockwork/Ride PG/KTM rider got off to a mediocre start and made a few passes to move up with the frontrunners. However, at the midway point of the race the Indiana rider crashed and dropped outside of the top six. In the end, Bach was able to work his way back into third, giving him his fourth podium finish of the year.

“The track was really blown out and there are a lot of lines everywhere so it was easy to make some moves,” said Bach. “I got up to the front and I slipped in behind Kanney and I thought I would just track him, but I went down and lost a lot of ground. But I just put my head down and was determined to get back to the front.”

Josh Strang came into the race hoping to add to his 17-point lead in the series standings, and after finishing a solid fourth the FMF/Makita Suzuki rider left town with a 24-point cushion after his closest challenger, Charlie Mullins, struggled to finish 10th.

“I was a little off the pace today and I got a pretty bad start, but I was pretty happy overall,” said Strang. “I actually picked up a few points and my bike was awesome. The testing we did the last few weeks – we got the thing dialed in, so I’m pretty stoked about that. It’s a bummer not to get on the podium but I’m still in good shape for the championship.”

Thad DuVall ran in second during the early stages of the race before giving way to Kanney and Bach. DuVall eventually edged out FMF/KTM factory rider Cory Buttrick for fifth. In the meantime, DuVall’s Am Pro/FMF Yamaha teammate Barry Hawk Jr. finished seventh, ahead of Glenn Kearney on the 250 Husqvarna. Ninth and 10th went to Am Pro/FMF Yamaha riders Paul Whibley and Mullins.

Mullins came into the race hoping to make a dent in Strang’s points lead, however he went down on the first lap and damaged his throttle body. The Ohio native eventually had to make a trip to the pits to get it fixed and was never able to recover the lost time.

Like the XC1 race, the XC2 race as a two-man battle, with class rivals Kailub Russell and Jason Thomas going at it for most of the race. Over the summer break, Thomas’ team, Monster Energy Andrews Cycles, made the switch to Husqvarna machinery and Thomas was making his first start on the new TXC 250 and he was hoping to get a win.

After battling during the early stages with KTM rider Jesse Robinson and GEICO/JG Off Road/ Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Scotty Watkins, Thomas and Russell broke away and spent the rest of the race swapping the lead. The race was finally decided on the final lap, within sight of the finish line, when Russell and Thomas came together and Thomas ended up going down. In end end, Russell put his FMF/KTM across the finish line three seconds sooner than Thomas to claim his sixth win of the series.

“I had a couple of crashes today, but I was able to catch back up each time,” said Russell. “There at the end, me and Jason were both going for the same line and we came together and he got the bad end of the deal.”

Thomas was disappointed at the way the race ended but he was pleased with his new bike and his team.

“I just wanted to win it was all the people who supported me today,” said Thomas.

Watkins rounded out the podium, beating out KTM’s Steward Baylor Jr. for the position by just over two minutes.

Zach Nolan made his XC2 debut a good one by finishing fifth, while fellow KTM rider Nick Davis rode a solid race to finish sixth.

Nicholas Hunter (KTM), Morgan Moss (Yam), Jason Klammer (KTM) and Brian Lawson (Yam) rounded out the top 10.

The Overall Amateur Award went to Jordan Ashburn for the sixth this year. The Kawasaki rider was 16th overall and topped the Open A division.

Holeshots in the top two classes went to Eric Bailey, who claimed the $250 MotorcyceUSA.com Holeshot Award at the start of the XC1 race; and Morgan Moss, who won the $100 Motorcycle-USA.com Holeshot Award in the XC2 division.

In the morning race, Chad Tallman won the Sportsman A class on a Kawasaki, claiming the overall win as well.

Maria Forsberg beat fellow KTM rider Shelby Rolen and Yamaha rider Leeann Bange to win the Women’s division.

In the Youth race, KTM rider Layne Michaels beat out Grant Baylor to win the Super Mini (14-15) class. Michaels was also the top Youth Overall finisher.

“I just tried to stay consistent today,” said Michaels. “I pushed hard after the start and built a small gap and I just kept on truckin’ all day.”

The Can-Am Grand National Cross Series will return on September 25th and 26th for the Titan GNCC, held in Lafayette, Tennessee.

Many said it couldn’t be done, but Quinn Cody proved them wrong when he became the first solo rider to claim the overall motorcycle victory in the 14-year history of the TSCO Vegas to Reno desert race on August 20.

Round five (for the bikes) of Best in the Desert’s American Off-road Racing Series saw Johnny Campbell Racing Honda’s Cody chase RPP Racing Yamaha-mounted Jerry Parsons and Anthony Westbay for most of the first 300-plus miles of the 534-mile-long sprint between Beatty and Dayton, Nevada.

But when they reached one long, rough, uphill sand wash where the dust wasn’t as bad, Cody realized his chance was at hand and dashed into the lead, enjoying nothing but clean air from there to the finish, which he reached in nine hours, 21 minutes and 18 seconds, unofficially. Parsons and Westbay easily held on for the runner-up spot in 9:35:06……

FMF/KTM riders Mike Brown and Kurt Caselli continued their streak of finishing on the podium together – this time with a 2nd and 3rd overall at the fifth round of the WORCS at Honey Lake MX Park.
Brown had a great start, coming off the line in 2nd place behind Ricky Dietrich. Caselli started just outside the top ten. Brown dropped to 3rd once on the first lap but quickly got back in front of the rider and maintained 2nd place. During the first two laps Dietrich was able to put a 20 second gap on Brown which gave him an edge for the remainder of the race. Brown charged hard and rode a solid race to finish in 2nd place and earn valuable points toward the championship title.

Caselli took his mediocre start and moved up into 5th by the end of the first lap. Caselli pit two laps before everyone else on lap 4. Even with his pit stop he still made up time on this lap and caught Justin Soule who he passed for 4th place. The next two laps he spent reeling in the 3rd place ride of Robby Bell. He passed Bell on the sixth lap to move into podium position. Caselli remained in 3rd to the finish to stand on the podium with his teammate.

The RPM/KTM Team was also present at this event. Women’s rider Kacy Martinez won the race by over two minutes to strengthen her points lead. Brenden Ritzman had a couple crashes during the Pro event but still managed to finish inside the top ten with 8th overall.

The track conditions were rough and the weather was hot neither of which bothered the FMF/KTM Factory stars Brown and Caselli as they dominated the field in the desert terrain of Southern California.

Off the line, Brown was the lead KTM rider in 5th position with Caselli sitting in 9th. Brown maintained 5th position for the first few laps before passing for 4th and soon 3rd near the halfway point. Meanwhile Caselli quickly picked off the bottom ten riders and was soon sitting in 5th position before the pit.

Brown lost some time to current leader Ricky Dietrich when he stopped for gas first. The following lap Brown began to reel in Dietrich and made the pass the following lap. Brown was able to pull more on the field when most riders pit the next lap.

Caselli turned up the heat after the gas stop first passing into 4th and then moving to an easy 3rd position after Kyle Summers broke with two laps to go. Caselli was soon hot on the trail of a tiring Dietrich, who was suffering from flu-like symptoms. Caselli quickly moved around Dietrich and began to close the gap on his teammate Brown.

Brown took home the win with his son there to greet him. “I always seem to win when my son comes to the races, I think he needs to start coming to them all,” commented Brown after the event. Caselli finished in 2nd just a few seconds down from Brown and Dietrich rounded out the podium in 3rd.

FMF/KTM Hare & Hound rider David Kamo made the drive from Idaho to participate in the Adelanto race. Kamo suffered from a poor start, caught and passed a few riders early on and then and rode a consistent pace to finish the race. “I struggled a bit here. I am used to being in 5th gear pinned at the desert races, and I never saw 5th gear once today,” remarked Kamo. “But it is always worth the drive to come here for the race experience and the added training.”

Brown’s win today moves him up to third in championship points while Caselli remains in the lead 6 points ahead of Dietrich. “I would have liked to take home the win here today, but when I can’t get it – it is good to know the guy ahead of me is my teammate,” stated Caselli.

Overall Results
1. Mike Brown – KTM
2. Kurt Caselli – KTM
3. Ricky Dietrich
4. Eli Tomac
5. Justin Soulè

Overall Points
1. Kurt Caselli – 87
2. Ricky Dietrich – 81
3. Mike Brown – 70
4. Justin Soulè – 65
5. Gary Sutherlin – 51

Next Event: Round 5 – Milford, CA – May 14-16, 2010

KTM riders once again stood strong at the second round of the 2010 World Enduro Championship. The GP of Portugal took place only a week after the WEC opener in Spain, and although riders anticipated similar conditions, the two rounds were quite diverse. The dry and dusty Spanish terrain was followed by a very wet GP of Portugal thanks to heavy downpours on Friday and Saturday nights. Added to the rock-littered and technical course, the WEC riders were in for a demanding two days on the Iberian Peninsular in Fafe, Portugal.

In the E3 division, David Knight continues to reign surpreme. The Manxman topped Friday night’s Super Test and went into the weekend with the upper hand. Gas Gas rider Christophe Nambotin was able to edge him out for top honors on Saturday by a mere two seconds, but Knight returned fire the following day and topped Sunday’s E3 competition by nearly 30 seconds………..
