Mammoth Motocross Highlights

Woke up on Friday the 25th of June itching to do something that involved motorcycles. Just my luck the Mammoth motocross was taking place. Packed up the video camera, grabbed a sleeping bag and a tooth brush and headed to the holy land of outdoor activities, Mammoth Lakes, CA

Strang Wins Parts Unlimited Florida GNCC

Lake Wales, Florida (March 2nd, 2010) — FMF Makita Suzukis Josh Strang drew first blood at the opening round of the 2010 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series at Westgate River Ranch in Lake Wales, Florida, winning a hard-fought battle over KTM privateer Chris Bach at the end of three hours of racing.

Nearly 1200 riders representing eight countries attended the series opener, which saw no less than five different riders hold the lead at one point or another in the highly competitive XC1 division.

At the drop of the green flag, it was defending series champ Paul Whibley taking the $250 Motorcycle-USA.com Holeshot Award on his Am-Pro WR450F. Meanwhile, Strang was at the back of the pack after his bike failed to start on the first kick. At the end of the first lap, however, it was last year’s River Ranch winner, Charlie Mullins, holding a lead the Obermeyer/Am-Pro Yamaha rider eventually turned into a 45-second advantage. And at the midway point of the race, Mullins looked to be well on his way to his second-straight River Ranch win, however he eventually fell victim to one of the waterholes that littered the rough and sandy 14-mile course…..

WORCS Week Kicks off in Washington

The AMA WORCS Bike Week National Championship is moving right along up north in Washington this week, just outside the states capital at Straddleline ORV park. The first event of the 4 part AMA National Championship for this newly added WORCS Bike Week kicked off with an AMA Western National Hare Scramble formated event with Ricky Dietrich taking the win in a 2-1/2 hour chaotic and somewhat back and forth epic Hare Scramble style race.

FMF Suzuki’s Charlie Mullins pulled hole shot from the dead engine start with Factory Kawaski/Monster Energy’s Destry Abbott and Northland Kawasaki/Precision Concept’s Jamie Lanza in tow. Then all hell broke loose, a bottle neck occurred with the A riders in the back causing a totally impassible track. WORCS Director/President Sean Reddish was forced to red flag the event and resume from the starting line with a Nascar-Bounty Hunter single file restart with a 5 second interval from where they were scored on the lap before.

After a restart, Dietrich was forced to start from the back from where he was on the previous lap before carnage broke out, Mullins, Abbott, Caselli (who came out while taking the GNCC summer off), Lanza and more continued to file back through for a stunning finish. In the end it was Dietrich, Abbott and Caselli who stood on the box.

AMA National Champions, ISDE Gold medalists are all taking part in this 1^stAnnual AMA/WORCS Championship Bike Week. Be sure to check back on Thursday morning for results from Wednesday’s WORCS GPMX race to take place. On Friday night, the 3^rd part of the event will be the WORCS Xcross, finishing up with WORCS Rnd #8 on Sunday, Aug. 9^th. Western National Hare Scrambles points, WORCS National Championship points and AMA WORCS bike week points are all at stake. This has to be the most important week in off road racing. This multi-disciplined 4 part series is sure to be a hit and the Champion will receive the AMA #1 plate for their participation and best overall scores from the individual events.

Mullins Wins GNCC Opener

In a wide-open Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series, FMF Suzuki’s Charlie Mullins made the first statement by taking a dominant wire-to-wire win at the Parts Unlimited River Ranch GNCC in Florida. After nabbing the $250 MotorcycleUSA.com Holeshot, Mullins put in a perfect day on a rough, sandy race track, with GEICO Monster Kawasaki’s Paul Whibley and Shock Doctor KTM’s Nathan Kanney taking the next spots on the podium.
